YES24 LIVEHALL

I recently attended Jamie xx's concert in Korea, held at the venue formerly known as Ax Hall, now called YES24 LIVEHALL.
When it comes to international concerts in Korea, I think the venues generally fall into two categories:
  • Large-scale venues
    • Gocheok Sky Dome
    • Jamsil Sports Complex
    • Ilsan
  • For niche audiences
    • YES24 LIVEHALL
    • Itaewon Blue Square
YES24 LIVEHALL, in particular, has become a popular destination for many artists, even in a country like Korea, which is often seen as a challenging market for international music.

Jamie xx and Apple Music interview

Video preview
On my way to the concert, I watched Jamie xx’s interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, which was recorded following the release of his new album. One particular part of their conversation stood out to me:
Jamie: “I didn’t go to school because I was making music.” (I interpreted this as him dedicating all his time to music, leaving no room for school.)
Zane: “So, did you drop out of school?”
Jamie: “Hmm, kind of, but they still let me take my exams.”
This left a strong impression on me because it made me realize that to truly achieve something—especially to the point where it becomes a career that sustains your life—you often have to give up something significant in its place. That level of dedication requires real weight and commitment.

Closing Thoughts

Seeing Jamie perform live as a DJ was incredibly inspiring. It was a powerful reminder of what it means to be a professional.
Loving something, taking the time to understand it, exploring it deeply, creating your own unique version of it, and eventually building a recognized brand—these are universal principles that can apply to any industry.
The interview reminded me that embracing and enjoying the process is key to becoming a true brand and gaining recognition. It was a valuable takeaway that made both the concert and the conversation even more meaningful.
